Our ministry IS based on Psalm 23 as it reads in the Living Bible.
Because the Lord is my Shepherd, I have everything I need! He lets me rest in the meadow grass And leads me beside the quiet streams. He gives me new strength. He helps me do what honors Him the most. Even when walking through the valley of death I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me, guarding, guiding, all the way. You provide delicious food for me in the presence of my enemies. You have welcomed me as your guest. Blessings overflow! Your goodness and unfailing kindness shall be with me all of my life and afterwards I will live with you forever in your home. Psalm 23 (LB)
It has been very difficult to do a page about us. For you see, it isn’t about us—all that we do is about Jesus Christ and Him crucified for our sins. He died so that we might live. Everything we are and everything we have is because of God’s grace and mercy.
Western Meadows is a partnership of two families—Rick and Judy Shepard and Phil and Sandy Thomas.
Western Meadows started when the Lord directed us to move to Canon City, Colorado in 1983. Rick had a desire to go into prison ministry and Canon City was the hub of Colorado’s prison population. Someone came to our door in Colorado Springs and asked if they could purchase our place, and with that the Lord led us to 281 Four Mile Lane. This is a picture of the creek that runs through the property. The first day we looked at the place, I fell in love with the trees and the peacefulness along the stream. I could feel the presence of the Lord along this creek.
This was the place that Sandy Thomas’ grandparents had owned. The grandparents had cut off a few acres and had given them to Sandy and her groom Phil many years earlier. Sandy and I became neighbors by a Divine appointment. The Lord brought us to this beautiful setting and brought Sandy into my life.
Rick and I started a Bible study in our living room and Phil and Sandy came. Sandy and Phil were such good people, and a few short weeks into the study they accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
Sandy and I had Bible study and prayer together from then on. We raised our kids together, and now we are growing into our golden years together.
Sandy is the quiet one of our team at Western Meadows. She is full of wisdom, grace, and insight. I am privileged to have her as my right hand in this team ministry.
After much prayer and thinking we decided to make this page about us so that our readers will know that we are real people. We love Jesus Christ, and He has been our Lord and Savior for many years. Each day we must make decisions and choose if we are going to follow Jesus Christ or follow a path that might seem right to us at the time but is against what God wills for our lives. We struggle with sin! But we continue on. We persevere, believing God’s Word and the blessings He promises to us in His word. God has been so good to us, we pray we might be an encouragement to each woman that reads this that they might taste and see that the Lord is good, very very good. It is the desire of our hearts to be women of great faith.
