In 1980 The Lord gave me a nice bay mare name GG, short for God’s Gift. She reminded me of God’s love, faithfulness, and trustworthiness. When we ran barrels, I truly felt the joy of the Lord. G.G. was a horse with heart. She always tried her best to do what I asked.
Since then I have had many barrel horses; some bigger, some quicker, some smarter, some prettier, some faster, but none have had her heart. And none of them have been winners. God wants his people to be like G.G.; have a lot of heart and never quit trying to please Him. When we are wholeheartedly trying to please and serve God we will be eternal winners.
Even the horses with the biggest hearts have to be trained.
Even if we want to please God with all of our hearts, we have to be trained in righteousness. We once had a border collie that really wanted to please. But the dog’s owners, my husband and I, failed to train him. I often felt sorry for the dog as he ran in circles trying with all of his physical strength to do something to help. He didn’t understand what we wanted.
Do you ever feel confused about your life? Do you feel like you are running in circles? We at Western Meadows believe there are many good people in this world that want to please God, but haven’t been taught what that means. Anxiety, stress, and burn out often occur because people try so hard to accomplish things. Sometimes those things are good things and sometimes they are wrong things. Sometimes we are trying to accomplish good things with wrong motives. Sometimes we are trying to accomplish things with our strength, rather than in the strength of the Lord.
Whoa, wait a minute? What did that last sentence say? We try to accomplish things with our strength rather than God’s strength. Doing in our strength causes striving. Striving makes one and one’s family miserable. God has a better way, He wants to give us new strength, the same power that raised Christ from the dead. This power is given for us to serve—serve God and serve others. Now that is a big deal.
God’s plan is one to free you of your heavy burdens. He wants to give you light burdens and rid you of anxiety and stress. He wants to fill you with His peace and His joy.
Please read the awesome promise in 2 Peter 1:2-4:
Do you want more and more of God’s kindness and Peace?
Then get to know Him better. For as you know Him better,
He will give you, through His great power, everything you need for living a truly good life.
Our desire at Western Meadows is for every cowboy and western woman to have everything they need for living a truly good life! We want you to give God your whole heart so that you might be eternal winners. We want you to receive all that God wants to give you.
We are here to help and encourage you to be all that God created you to be—truly a people actively and passionately following Jesus. We pray you will be energized with the power of God and you will let God lead you in His goals. May the love of God flow through your veins with every breath we take so that all will know that we, the world of cowboys, are truly God’s disciples because we have love one for another. May we live out our lives with clear consciences and truly doing everything to honor God.
