The name of the prayer chain for Western Meadows is going to be called, “Going to the Lord”--For we are going to the Lord, to ask Him to give us those things that the world of cowboys need.”
When we started the ministry I asked the Lord for a name and He gave me Western Meadows. We live in a beautiful community. Our home sets in the middle of irrigated hay fields and we have live water running through our place. There are large cottonwoods that grow along the creek and the colors are absolutely gorgeous in the fall. Lots of green all spring and summer.
So Western Meadows became the name and Psalm 23 became the verses. In the Living Bible it reads,
The Lord is my Shepherd I have everything I need.
He lets me rest in the meadow grass,
He leads me beside the peaceful streams.
He gives me new strength.
He helps me do what honors God the most.
That is our place, meadow grass, peaceful streams.
Our theme for Women Behind Cowboys, is "Encouraging women to do what honors God the most." which comes straight from Psalm 23.
And the theme for the Jesus Loves Cowgirls is, "He gives me new strength."
For the prayer chain; the Bible tells us that we have not because we ask not.
It tells us to seek and we will find, ask and we will receive.
James 4:2 says, "Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it." And a favorite of mine in Hebrews tells us to boldly approach the throne of grace and receive mercy in our time of need. In Matthew 20:29 two blind men cry out to the Lord Jesus. He says, “What do you want me to do for you?” That is the heart of Jesus, He wants to know what we want Him to do for us. We just need to ask for He has everything we need.
Psalm 23 tells us that when Jesus is our Shepherd we have everything we need. I find 12 things we need that Jesus gives in this psalm.
1. He lets me rest. Rest in cool grass.
2. He leads me to peace.
3. He gives me new strength.
4. He guides me to do right.
5. He is close to me. I am not alone, ever.
6. He protects me.
7. He comforts me.
8. He feeds me. He will meet my daily needs.
9. He honors me.
10. He blesses me.
11. He pursues me with His love and goodness.
12. He gives me a place to live, forever—heaven.
It truly is a privilege to serve the world of cowboys and Sandy and I are excited to see the next chapter of this wonderful adventure called life. Judy Shepard
